MOBILITY. SAFETY. DESIGN. VISION5

At Vision5, our name is our methodology. We operate at the heart of the 5-Helix model, driving urban transformation by aligning the interests of Academia, Industry, Government, Civil Society, and the Environment. We believe that sustainable mobility only succeeds when all five forces move in the same direction.

VISION5 and the urban transformation

MANAGING CONFLICTS IN ROAD AND URBAN SPACES ON THE PATH TOWARDS THE 15-MINUTE CITY

In the DUT research project "Conflicted Streets," VISION5 is investigating the conflicts that arise when a municipality redesigns a street to promote the transport transition. The central question is not whether conflicts arise. After all, the differing demands of residents, commuters, and local business owners are usually not directly compatible with one another. The real question is what kind of conflicts they are: Is it truly about the use of public space? Or do the participants and affected parties interpret the existing facts in completely different ways? Or does the root cause of the conflict lie completely outside the actual redesign itself, grounded instead in values and life philosophies? The answers to these questions are essential for properly addressing conflicts and integrating them into the redesign process. One key takeaway is this: It is crucial to embrace conflicts and accept them for what they are.
